Looking for a Story About Porn, I Found a Great News App. I Love the Internet.

It's been a long time since I found an online tool that got me excited about news coverage, but Newsy is that site.

Oddly enough, I found it in a search for more info on Grant Smith, the Utah professor charged with viewing child pornography on a flight from Salt Lake City to Boston. I was
going to blog about how the Internet has changed our relationship with porn (yeah, I'm talking to YOU).

People freaked out about the easy accessibility of porn when Debbie Does Dallas hit the back room of the neighborhood video store in the 1980s. But even then, there was a modicum of risk to get XXX-rated product. Now? Heck, porn is private, portable and perfectly free. Allegedly, the good professor thought that with a spacious first-class seat, he could enjoy whatever video his computer presented him without worry.

But back to Newsy...

Every story references other coverage from TV, websites and blogs to provide what it calls "multisource video news analysis". Layered journalism, I call it. And, Google tells me that Newsy's free iPad app was selected as 2011 Appy Award for Best News App of the Year. Here's Newsy coverage of the "airborne porn" story. The presentation just strikes me as...fresh and well thought-out. What do you think?
