Communication Goddess' Holiday Gift Idea #1:The Good Card from Network for Good.com
For years, people could make a donation to a charity in someone else's name and presto! Holiday shopping done. I've been on both ends of that, and I never felt totally satisfied as giver or recipient. Sometimes the gift was made to my favorite charity, but once I remember that it was the giver's fave charity that got the money. Bizarre. As the giver, it just felt like a rather detached gift, even as it did a world of good in my local community.
the recipient to later redeem that amount as a donation to any of more than 1.2. million charities. If the non-profit is registered with GuideStar, you can support them with a Good Card.Once ordered online, a hard plastic card can be manufactured and mailed to you for face-to-face presentation. Second choice: print your own card from the computer. Or, forget the wrapping paper and just e-mail it.

You can load a Good Card with as little as $10 or as much as $250, plus a $5 handling fee. The cards expire after 6 months.
And while you're on the website, noodle around Network for Good for a while. Its only mission is help nonprofits raise money and find volunteers. I bet you could help.
