Today NBC Nightly News Anchor Brian Williams told me that this is the 30th anniversary of the Sony Walkman. My first thought was to wonder at what age do people respond to this news by asking "What the heck is a Sony Walkman?"Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
Apparently I wasn't the only one with this thought, because both the BC and the San Francisco Chronicle thought to ask some of today's teens to put the anniversary in perspective. If, like me, you remember FINALLY getting a Walkman so that you, too, could be cool, you'll just love this comment from 13-year-old Scott Campbell:
"My dad had told me it was the iPod of its day. He had told me it was big, but I hadn't realized he meant that big. It was the size of a small book."A small book?! Back in the day we thought it was the smallest thing we'd ever seen. And the cassettes it played were awesome, weren't they?
What poor little Scott doesn't know (I won't tell him -- will you?) is that as sure as God made the little green apples, by the time Scott is 21, he'll think that iPods are the lowest form of technology ever.
