Ya Gotta Love Old-School Ads Pushing New-School Media

With that holiday exuberance lingering in the air, The Goddess chooses to follow up her celebration of Independence with a celebration of Innovative Excellence...of sorts.

Are you noticing that a growing number of advertisers are incorporating references to social media? Ads placed in traditional broadcast media paying tribute to the popularity of new media. Mobile phones are an obvious product to do it, but not all of them do it with any sense of style. And when a product that you'd never link to Web 2.0 figures out a way to build that connection, they should be applauded, don'tcha think?

Announcing: the first-ever Social Media WannaBe awards! Only two notables so far, but our scouts are constantly watching for more.

Runner Up:
Sprint, The Now Network campaign. Real and obviously made-up statistics about social media usage help to sell mobile phones:

The #1 Social Media WannaBe award goes to Coleman, The Outdoor Company that brings you coolers, airbeds, tents and more.

Coleman's new slogan, voiced over a shot of a blazing campfire, proclaims the company as The Original Social Networking Site. Too cute.

Unfettered by trade associations or committees, the Goddess may announce more award winners as she deems appropriate. Congratulations, winners!
